This week, as we continue our series on “Who Am I?” We’re going to talk about why it can be so confusing to really know who it is that we are. I think sometimes that it’s so confusing to really grasp our identity in Christ, because the world is constantly bombarding us with who they say we are and it’s completely opposite of what God says about us.
The problem is that many Christians don’t truly understand their identity in Christ, but instead take their identity from the world. It can be quite confusing and sometimes we aren’t sure what to believe…which is the lie, and which is the truth?
For example:
The world says, “You only live once! Do what makes you feel good.”
The Word says in James 4:17, “To him or her that knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
The world says, “Follow Your heart.”
The Word says in Proverbs 3:5-7, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
The world says, “Hate your enemies. It’s okay to hold a grudge against them and want to get revenge on them.”
The Word says in Matthew 5:44 says, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”
The world says, “You need to be a certain size and look a certain way in order to be beautiful.”
The Word says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that He has made everything beautiful in its time!”
The world says, “It’s cute to be loud and to cuss.”
The Word says in Proverbs 31:26, “to speak wisdom and kindness.”
The world says, “The Bible is outdated and doesn’t apply to today.”
The Word says in 1 Peter 1:25, “That the Word of God endures forever.” And in Hebrews 4:12 it tells us that it is living and powerful!”
The world says, “Let your story define your truth.”
The Word says in John 14:6 that Jesus is the Truth!
The world’s thought processes are backwards. It’s no wonder that when we look out and see so much pain, and so much emptiness, and so much evil. They don’t know the Truth…and
