As we come into the month where fear is celebrated…aka Halloween and all the stuff that goes along with it. I thought it would be a great time to talk about fear. This is going to be a two part series, so be sure to come back and listen to the 2nd part of this series!
I grew up in a family that was borderline obsessed with all things Halloween, scary movies, haunted houses, you name it. I was terrified of the dark. I was terrified of being alone.
It wasn’t until a couple years after I became a Christian, when a friend of mine asked me why I still watched scary movies, then he went on to explain that he didn’t watch scary movies, because he didn’t see the point. Why, when he was walking in faith, would he want to invite fear in. That thought process blew my mind.
Today, I’m not going to talk about whether you should watch scary movies, whether you should celebrate Halloween or whether you should go to haunted houses.
Today, I want to talk about going from fear to faith.
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind.
See, Paul understood a principle that God is trying to teach us. When we invite fear into our lives, we are pushing away our faith, so that we now are being controlled by fear instead of letting God be our guide and our protection.
